Organic search results are listings on search engine results pages that appear because of their relevance to the keywords or keyphrases queried by the users. In contrast, non-organic search results may include pay per click advertising such as Google AdWords, Yahoo! Advertising, and Microsoft Advertising.
As the perspective among general users was that all the search results were in fact “results”, the qualifier “organic search result” was coined to distinguish the real search results from the PPC ads. This term is now in widespread use within the search engine marketing industry.
